The Belly Opener; As the name implies, this is a specialized knife for opening the body cavity of large game animals. It's designed to avoid puncturing the internal organs, which can taint the meat. The stainless blade is about 2 3/8” long. The mouth of the opening is about ¾” wide, more than twice as wide as the usual “gut hook”. This helps prevent clogging when working with heavy pelted animals. The handle is just under 5” long, and shaped to provide good control even when wearing gloves. It’s cast directly onto the blade to avoid gaps that can collect bacteria causing body fluids.
