Järvenpää Moose Hunter #1243

This new Moose Hunter "edged" out previous 4 Jarvenpaas full-size & miniature fancy horseheads & 2 others, all of which I like a lot. Aptly named knife, as its size, heft, & overall bushcraftinesss would enable experienced hunter to readily skin & field-dress a moose.

Carbon steel "Tillero" BLADE actually measuring L 3 3/8" × W 13/16" × THK 1/8" you'll have to clean, dry, oil, & hone frequently to keep rust-free & sharp, but that's to be expected from any such genuine Finnish puukko, & nobody does it better than Jisakki J.

But it is its HANDLE that stands out. Measuring L 4 3/8" × CIRCUMF 4 1/2"!, with heavy brass guard & pommel, a silverback gorilla would adore this cutter fitting its huge hands. Such smart simians know beak of birdhead pommel will protect digits from blade as will similarly-shaped pommel enable vice-like grip. The tasteful ape appreciates its rakish slant echoed by same-angled alternating black & beige spacers above & below thick marvelously marled masur birch central portion of handle made for monstrous monkeys.

SHEATH is like most J-paas, its dark brown leather cinched together at rear seam, chrome rivet & metal ring attaching thereunto leather dangler belt loop. There's a slit there if you prefer to hang puukko from button. Curiously, the plastic lasta inside--just like my other Jarvenpaas--protects only front side of sheath.

If you have at least XL hands & seek traditional yet quite stylish Finnish puukko for work or play, this affordable $179 knife is one to consider.

This is my second Järvenpää knife. My first is a Scout, a great knife but the grip is a bit too thin for a medium to large hand. This knife got the grip right. The thick grip and front and rear guards give the hand a secure and comfortable hold.

From the condition of this knife it is clear why Iisakki Järvenpää has lasted so long in the knife making business. The workmanship is excellent and evident in the fit & finish. This particular model is also very “stylish” in its design.
Ragweed Forge offered this knife at a competitive price. Redbeard and his team delivered great service in fulfilling my order ensuring quick delivery.
I have used this knife for a few tasks around the homestead and it delivered as expected. I hope to really put through its paces on a camping/fishing trip next month.
I am very pleased with this purchase.

Same as above!

This was an early Christmas gift for myself. Beautiful little knife that feels comfy in the hand. Quality & craftmanship are excellent, the folks at Jarvenpaa have knife making down to a science. Ask the fella at Ragweed to pick me a dandy,he didn't disappoint. Excellent service and fast shipping,i've already set my sights on a few more i'll be ordering a few after the Holidays.
