Lauri Carving 54 Carbon Steel Blade with Ricasso

One of my two favorite blades for making carving knives - the Ricasso design seems to add width or depth to the blade giving it the appearance of a slightly deeper belly than the non-ricassou carving blades. The Lauri 42 is also a favorite for doing the smaller and more detailed carving.
The Laurin blades seem to be exceptional quality at a very reasonable price. All the blades I have received have been consistent sizing, grinding and quality and have been paper slicing sharp on arrival. For the carbon blades I usually spend a little time rounding over (smoothing) the spine and removing most of the black forging carbon. The Stainless Steel blades arrive polished.

As a longtime customer of this fine seller, it’s quite refreshing to know that, still family owned, it has continued as a first class seller of superb Scandinavian knives and the blades and other supplies to build your own.

Great little blade, I paired it with a curly maple handle, and used a piece of walnut to cap the end, my Lauri 125 is next to handle, I'll probably order another Lauri 54, or 60 for a companion knife with my Wetterlings axe.

Nice project blade for carving and multiuse.

Made a great gift for a friend. Used Ash wood for handle
