Clunky Gorilla Knife

Were you a male silverback lowland gorilla, you might like this knife, otherwise, probably not. With XL to XXL hands wearing size 11 or 12 gloves, it's even too big for mine because the giant wood & reindeer handle is over 4" in circumference & 4.5" long. With a relatively light & short 4 1/8" blade, most of 5-oz weight is in grip & consequently imbalanced, too, making it difficult if not impossible to use in tradional puukko fashion forefinger choked up near guard (absent on this one), thumb on spine. The good-looking embossed side-seam leather sheath is too heavy, also, as the wooden "tip" liner within is fully 4" long & overly thick. Whole rig weighs over half a pound, justifiable were the knife full tang, which it is not. Otherwise well constructed, it's the puukko you'll seldom actually use, so I sent it back for refund.

Description

New Mountain Knives LLC is a newly formed business by Chris Nyberg who has been making knives for over twenty years.  The blades are all Scandinavian made and sourced from Ragweed Forge.  The handle materials almost always include both antler and wood while using variety of spacer materials.  The wood and most antler is all harvested or sourced by the maker locally in central NY.  All knives are finished with Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil gunstock finish which is a linseed oil based finish that looks great and is easy to refinish if necessary.  All knives come with sheaths inspired by Scandinavian design made by New Mountain Knives. Leather sheaths all have a wood liner but some knives are lucky and come with matching antler or wood sheaths.  New Mountain Knives is open to custom orders using antler, wood, or a blade that has some special meaning to you.

This knife started with a 105mm Lauri Carving Blade from Finland. He made a neat combo here with Black Locust wood/Reindeer antler guard with aluminum and vinyl spacers. The handle shape is excellent for Med/Large hands

The Sheath is hand sewn, hand stitched oil tanned cowhide with a carved wooden insert inside. The knife fits quite nicely into this sheath and you can be sure it would not fall out on accident.
