Not only is this discontinued, discounted puukko a terrific cutter, but it's also a lovely work of art equal to my best custom puukkos. Arrived today just as I was busy needing a knife for various Sat. projects. Opened other boxes/mail, scraped off dirt-dobber nests, whacked off tough green 1/2-in branches, then butterflied 2 still-frozen-in-center pork tenderloins, trimming off fat. BLADE: L 3 7/8" × W at ricassso 1 7/32" × THK at spine 1/8". My 1st Roselli with UHC, though Rockwell is ultra-high 62-63, since bevel from 1/8-in thick portion to super-sharp edge makes mere 3/8-in-wide Scandi, together forming extra-wide-angle slope, I personally would not be reluctant to cut bone so long as slicing straight thru with no twisting. Spine is slightly swooped, embuing a subtle artistic flare. 1/8-in Ricasso is just wide enough to enable easy sharpening of blade's base.
HANDLE: Begins with gorgeous 92.5% sterling silver ferrule I wonder if will tarnish & require polishing. Pommel is polished-smooth reindeer antler with 2 rackish diagonal creases on bottom. Between is med-dark-stained beautifully-busy curly birch with palm-swell in middle & finger-grooves above & below. Size fits XL hands like mine on down to medium-size paws. SHEATH: Every bit as great as knife, curly birch bottom portion appears to be from same piece of wood in handle & sports at front top center an oval reindeer antler insert actually scalloped around perimeter. Upper leather part is soft, pliable med-dark leather that stinks like real reindeer hide. Hole thru top of rear center seam is threaded with a thick double strand leather dangler featuring an adjustable wood slide with scalloped oval reindeer antler insert matching one in sheath below. Curiously, on rear there are 7 small shallow holes drilled in birch in shape resembling Big Dipper constellation, emblematic of astronomical price! Truly authentic, the only metal in rig is blade & ferrule. $97 off $786.99 = 12% discount = $689.99 = still expensive & most I've ever paid for any knife, but it approaches perfection, so I'm thrilled to own. 57th in puukko collection, this is my favorite--for now.
