John Drewes has been a long time customer. Sending us photos of his custom knives every now and then, we have started to urge him to let us sell some. We often display his work on our Social Media Pages. After asking a number of time, he is ready to sell some of these beautiful pieces. Quite the creative craftsman with just beautiful hand finished work.
This is a "Tommi" style puukko. The blade was made in Finland by Puronvarsi and is forged from Krupp carbon steel (C75). It has a rhombic cross section and is highly polished.
The handle is of stabilized box elder burl, and there are red acrylic and black micarta accent spacers. The bolster is polished nickel silver. The Tommi puukko usually features the color red, and this one is no exception.
The sheath is made of Finnish veg. tanned steer hide and has a wooden core inside the lower part. It is hand stitched, and the belt hanger has a hand-made steel O-ring. The throat area of the sheath was at first skived about 3/4 inch and then folded to the inside direction, and it gives a real smooth, finished look to the open end of the sheath. This knife "pops" into the sheath nicely.
